Friday, September 25, 2015: Another beautiful weekend that will feel more like late summer than early Fall!

To be honest, I have been at this growing stuff racket for over 30 years and have never, ever seen a September like it!  Except for the ripening apples,  orange pumpkins and the ripe sweet winter squash, one has to search hard ton’t tell, by looking at nature’s signs, that in just a couple of days we will be into October!  It is so strange I just can’t come up with how this fall is going to turn out although there are strong indications from the staggering warmth of the Pacific equatorial region it does look like it may turn out to be one of the warmest winters in the Great Lakes region since records were kept.  However, the weather is so strange who really knows!   The smart thing here is to take advantage of the weather right now and stock up with fruits, and especially vegetables, that normally have either almost disappeared this late in the season or their quality has deteriorated.  Right now, for instance, our tomatoes, beans and peppers still think it is mid-summer and are relishing the warmth and less intense sun which does cause them problems during the heat of mid-summer.
